Abstract: In-vivo detection of neuropathology is critical for early diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases. Post-mortem brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of pathological protein inclusions could further our ability to detect them in vivo and correlate MRI parameters to histopathological substrates. Furthermore, multimodal quantitative MRI, and PET may also provide insight into the pathophysiology specific to concussion, traumatic brain injury and chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Here, we aim to examine pilot data from our centre in order to investigate candidate neuroimaging-based biomarkers for Tau deposition, pathological inclusions, neuroinflammation and co-pathology.

Bio: Vishaal is a PhD student in Dr. Tartaglia’s lab whose focus is neuroimaging-based biomarkers in concussion and neurodegenerative diseases. He has a background in quantitative MRI and MRI physics through his Master’s at UofT. His work aims to uncover and validate neuroimaging-based biomarkers for neuroinflammation, including freewater diffusion MRI, quantitative MRI and PET.
