Abstract: The impact of concussion on cognition and the permanence of these symptoms remains unclear. This knowledge gap is especially pronounced in elderly populations, where limited research makes it difficult to determine if pre-existing cognitive decline is a contributing factor to falls or if the concussion itself serves as the primary catalyst for new impairment. Using the TorCA, we have undertaken cognitive assessment in 293 patients aged 50 and above in a concussion clinic to look at the cognitive profile and the effects of varying symptoms such as headaches, poor sleep, and dizziness on these results

Bio: Dr. Tim Butson is a Rehabilitation Physician from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. He graduated from medical school at James Cook University in 2013. He also has a diploma of sports and exercise medicine from the University of Otago in New Zealand and a Masters of Sports Medicine from the University of Melbourne. Tim has a strong interest in concussion, running both a public and private concussion clinic on the Sunshine Coast and is on the medical advisory committee for Concussion Australia.
