Kshef Kamran
MSc Candidate, Public Health University of Alberta
Kshef is a first-year MSc student in Public Health, specializing in Health Promotion and Sociobehavioural Sciences at the University of Alberta, where she is also completing a graduate embedded certificate in Epidemiology and Applied Biostatistics and a member of the Student Advocates for Public Health team. She earned her BSc in Biological Sciences with distinction from the University of Calgary.
Her undergraduate research focused on clinical neuroscience and rehabilitation, where she examined the effectiveness of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) for adults with persistent post-concussion symptoms. Her undergraduate thesis further explored the efficacy of rTMS for neuropathic pain following spinal cord injury. Kshef is first author on publications in the American Journal of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation. She has presented her work at conferences across Canada and has received both the Branch Out Neurological Foundation Summer Studentship Award and the Neurosciences, Rehabilitation, and Vision Strategic Clinical Network™ Summer Studentship Award (SSA).
Beyond her research, Kshef served as Co-President of UCalgary Brain Waves, where she advocated for brain injury awareness in Calgary schools. Through her volunteer work with Inn from the Cold, preparing meals and hampers for individuals experiencing homelessness, she developed a strong commitment to using research to support vulnerable populations.
Her MSc thesis focuses on evaluating emergency department-linked respite programs for individuals experiencing homelessness in Edmonton. She also serves as President of the School of Public Health Wellness Team, where she works to prioritize the health and wellbeing of graduate students.
